IN LIEU OF WORDS
Valerie Lloyd
Join us for an opening on Friday, May 2nd, 5-9 pm.
Artist talk on May 15th at 5:30 pm.
The exhibit will be on display through May 30th.
About the Exhibit:
When words are not enough—or not welcome—imagery can express the subliminal thoughts, emotions, and empathies we carry. In this collection, flower blooms are rendered in oil on exposed wood panel, their light and shadow embodying both delicacy and boldness. These works offer space to comfort, to witness, and to mourn what cannot be said aloud—to hold space for others’ journeys, while also acknowledging the complexity of remaining silent within our ownselves.
Artist Bio:
Valerie Lloyd is drawn to the quiet language of form, color, and metaphor. Her paintings—ranging from abstract compositions to simplified still lifes and occasional illustrative works—are meditations on presence, spirituality, and the layered meanings found in everyday objects.
As both a painter and the owner/curator of Surface Gallery in Colorado Springs, Valerie sees art as a conversation: between emotion and form, artist and viewer, and the creative community as a whole. A lifelong creative, she has shared her passion through her own practice, commissioned design work, and as an art educator for students of all ages. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Colorado State University and believes deeply in the transformative power of art to inspire, connect, and shape culture.
