Erin Gillespie: Abstractions

This show is a combination of both botanical abstracts and non-objective mixed-media abstracts.  Although I specialize in portrait painting, I'm finding that I'm drawn more and more to abstract work and the pure application of paint and various marks.  My botanical abstracts are full of light and bright colors.  I rely on acrylic paint and both dry and oil pastels for these works, because they're easy to layer and work well with my drawing and mark-making.  My non-objective small abstracts are done with oil paints and india ink primarily, adding charcoal and graphite to add emphasis and movement to the pieces. -Erin Gillespie
