Collection: Dennis Kugizaki: Water Rocks

"When I was in kindergarten, the teacher told my dad that I was artistic because I could draw a smaller circle than any of the other kids. I guess she was right. I became strongly interested in art and earned a degree in Drawing and Painting from the University of California at Long Beach. 

Whether in my technical illustration, graphic design, woodworking or fine art, I’ve often utilized 3D design and the illusion of dimensionality. My drawing, painting, and photography demonstrate how highlights and shadows can give 2-D objects the 3rd dimension.

I’m also drawn to surrealism. My art often does not depict reality, but visions from my imagination. Salvador Dalí was one of my artistic heroes.

Moving to Colorado further opened my eyes to the beauty of basic elements, like water -- streams, rivers, waterfalls, snow and rain – and rocks, of every shape, size and color. Being a woodworker, I have hand shaped the rocks from wood scraps and then painted them to look like real rocks.

So therefore, my theme is Water Rocks.
