ERIN GILLESPIE

Erin Gillespie is a multi-media artist, specializing in painting, currently residing in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her work is primarily figurative, with hints of abstract and expressionistic qualities.  She creates oil and acrylic portraits, both large and small scale, that reflect her love for the human figure, as well as landscape and abstract works, recently combining the two.

Erin graduated with a BFA in Painting and Art History from Colorado State University in 1993. She continued to nourish her creativity with positions at Pinon Fine Art Gallery and Terra Firma Fine Art in Denver, Colorado, where she prepared materials for artists, consulted with art buyers, and installed exhibitions.  She was also a member of the Arts Students League of Denver, all while creating her own work at her home studio in Capitol Hill.  She also lived for many years in Portland, Oregon, and Tucson, Arizona.

Since returning to Colorado Springs in 2010, Erin's work has been featured in many group shows at local galleries, including Cottonwood Center for the Arts, The Bridge Gallery, Modbo Gallery, Old Midland School, Dreamcatchers Gallery, Bemis School Gallery, and 21C Library, where she was also the Artist in Residence in 2016.  Erin has had solo shows at The Bridge Commons Gallery, Raven's Nest, Poor Richard's Restaurant, Goatpatch Brewery, Carnelian Coffee ,UCCS Fine Arts Gallery, and 503 West in Old Colorado City.  Erin also had the honor of exhibiting her work in a solo show at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center at Colorado College in April and May of 2017. 

Erin was an art instructor at Bemis School of Art  for six years, teaching adults, as well as at-risk youth, through Tesla/Nueva Ventura.  She also taught at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, weekly classes at Manitou Arts Center, as well as several private lessons in both painting and drawing.  Erin is currently teaching numerous adult painting and drawing classes at Pikes Peak Artist Collective, her newest studio in Old Colorado City. 

Erin has painted numerous large scale murals, on both commercial and private properties.  These large scale murals are painted in a variety of styles and subject matters, all over Colorado and Arizona.

Although specializing in figurative works and portraits, Erin Gillespie's work continues  to grow and change as she experiments with different mediums, various subject matter, and new commissioned pieces.  She is currently painting non-objective and botanical abstracts.
