Elizabeth Selby- The Shape of Consciousness
The Shape of Consciousness
Elizabeth Selby
Opening Friday, October 3, 5-9pm
On display through October 31st
About the Exhibit:
Artist-turned-therapist Elizabeth Selby returns to art with a restless meditation on how
we carry the invisible weight of our histories—fractured moments, hidden wounds, and
the invisible hands that guide us home. Elizabeth Selby’s assemblages fuse therapy
with craft, layering salvaged wood, metal, and glass into surreal puzzles that while
imperfect, somehow fit tightly together, whispering secrets about pain, healing, and the
strange alchemy of becoming who we are meant to be.
About the Artist:
Artist-turned-therapist Elizabeth Selby returns to art with works exploring pain, healing,
and the collective nature of change. Her practice draws on a background in oil
painting, ceramics, woodworking, jewelry making, and metalwork—skills she’s honed
over years of creative exploration.
Her work as a therapist deeply informs her art, as conversations with clients have
sharpened her awareness of how life shapes us: through relationships, challenge,
memory, and transformation. Selby’s current body of work, The Shape of
Consciousness, brings these threads together in assemblages crafted from salvaged
wood, brass, marble, acrylic, and glass—pieces that fit together like puzzles,
imperfectly cut but seamlessly joined.
Selby lives and works in Colorado Springs, CO.
