About the Exhibit:

In Creature Emporium, Garcia designs and fabricates a menagerie of beasts inspired by cryptids, mythologies, and nature. She combines whimsical imagery with commonplace and everyday experiences in order to make interactive/semi-functional, wacky sculptures. In doing so, Garcia injects mundanity with a tincture of quirkiness and frivolity to alleviate the metaphorical heart.

About the Artist:

Alix Garcia is a half-Belgian, half-Filipino artist practicing in Colorado. In 2016, Garcia graduated from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual and Performing Arts. Currently, she manages an art supply shop, works occasionally for the exhibitions team at the Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, and assists other local artists with fabrication. Her work has been shown at a variety of local galleries including GOCA, Kreuser Gallery, and The Machine Shop. As a mixed media artist, Garcia noncommittally bounces among different media, exploring different avenues of creating whimsical, fun, illustrative and narrative designs.
